The Toyota Crown enters its third year on the market in a way only it could, but does its unique design help or harm consumers’ opinion of the flagship model?
Midsize and full-size luxury sedans have mostly been spared from the crossover craze that has driven many lower-end models to their grave. The Lexus ES, Cadillac CT5, and Genesis G80 are all doing fairly well in the sense that you can still buy one today. Unfortunately, it’s rare to see a new addition to the segment, what with manufacturers chasing profits largely driven by crossovers, trucks, and SUVs.
These days, most buyers prefer a crossover to a sedan, largely thanks to the higher ride height and increased utility. In terms of luxury, however, premium sedans still have a reputation synonymous with class.
Despite manufacturers shifting their focus to crossovers and SUVs, there still exists a market for traditional luxury sedans. While some automakers are transitioning to all-electric models, there are still some models that manage to bridge the gap, one of which is the rather unique Toyota Crown.
The full-size Toyota Avalon left the market following the 2022 model year, and the Toyota Crown was left in its stead. Nearing luxury levels of comfort, the Crown managed to sufficiently fill the Avalon’s spot on Toyota’s lineup. In terms of wheelbase, the two models are nearly identical, with the Avalon measuring in at 113 inches, while the Crown rides on a 112.2-inch wheelbase.
The Toyota Crown is still relatively new to the segment, but it does get a few updates for the 2025 model year. A heated steering wheel and heated and ventilated seats now come standard across all trim levels. In typical Toyota fashion, the Crown gains a Nightshade edition, bringing its total trim count to four.
